Overview

Provigent is a fabless semiconductor company that provides best-of-breed System-on a-Chip (SoC) solutions to vendors of broadband wireless equipment.

Provigent targets the microwave Point-to-Point transmission market, an inseparable part of the overall communications infrastructure. Microwave Point-to-Point wireless transmission systems present operators, service providers, and organizations with a reliable, flexible, cost effective, high-capacity infrastructure that is quickly deployed and up-scaled. There are four major segments to this market – cellular backhaul infrastructure, fixed wireless transmission, broadband wireless access (such as WiMAX), and private wireless networks – all of them can benefit from Provigent solutions.

Solutions

Provigent’s PVG610 ‘Terminal on a Chip’ is an extremely powerful and flexible device that supports gross data rates of up to 400Mbps and can be extended to 800Mbps using Provigent’s patented Cross Polarization Interference Cancellation (XPIC) technology. Using state-of-the-art forward error correction techniques and enhanced spectral efficiency, the PVG610 improves system gain enabling extended link ranges, lower cost antenna arrays and increased link availability. Performance parameters are fully programmable and include baud rates up to 50Mbaud, modulation schemes from QPSK to 256QAM and flexible channel bandwidths up to 56MHz. PVG610 functionality is implemented digitally, allowing for maximum software configurability thus eliminating the need for high cost external analog devices.

The PVG610 ‘Terminal on a Chip’ includes multiple built-in user interface types & technologies, high performance modem with LDPC error correction and phase noise tolerance, integrated analog front-end interfaces and an embedded management processor. An onboard General Purpose Multiplexer combines and maps traffic from the integrated PDH LIUs, SDH/Sonet framers, Gigabit Ethernet MAC and the General Purpose Interface. The PVG 610 also incorporates support for advanced technologies like Cross Polarization Interference Cancellation (XPIC), dynamic over-the-air pre-distortion and hitless Adaptive Coding & Modulation (ACM).

The powerful combination of performance, embedded control processing and functionality integrated in silicon make the PVG610 a full microwave ‘Terminal on a Chip’ and realize Provigent’s goal of enabling systems with unparalleled performance and features while still lowering total system costs. Provigent provides world class products, tools and support allowing customers the fastest time to market.

Funding

Privately owned, Provigent received strategic financing from prominent venture capital firms such as Sequoia Capital, Pitango Venture Capital, Lighspeed Venture Partners, Globespan Capital Partners, Ascend Technology Ventures, Magma Venture Partners, Delta Ventures and Stata Ventures Partners.

Management Team

The company has assembled a strong board of directors and a world-class advisory board composed of industry leaders such as Dr. Andrew Viterbi co-founder of QUALCOMM and Ray Stata, co-founder and chairman of Analog Devices.
